Sake bars apparently are characteristic of holing up in discreet locations, leaving newbie customers looking like tourists. Like Sakagura, Sake Bar Hagi is also situated below street level, but not as difficult to find (though the birthday girl did walk right past it even while keeping a sharp eye out for it). But that's where the similarities end, as the atmospheres of both establishments are at complete odds. Sake Bar Hagi is a complete comfort zone - a place to bring your drinking buddies after work and watch the game, while getting drunk off copious varieties of sake and delicious small dishes.
As I've mentioned in my other sake posts - I'm no sake-spert, so once again, we asked for a good recommendation. We were served one of their popular choices - a cold bottle of Kubota Sake Senjyu. I give props to my friends for drinking a glass with me, but alas, I was left drinking the rest of the bottle all by my lonesome - until E showed up later to help me out (yay for E!).
Though I wanted sake, everyone else was there for the food (oh, and my birthday). And what yummy food it was! We shared a couple Set A's (don't ask me to remember what was included in that; just take my word for it and go order it), some absolutely-DO-NOT-MISS fried eel w/citrus sea salt (yes, even I tried it), short ribs, a potato croquette, fried tofu, veggie gyoza (a special off the white board!), and a plate of some good ole yakisoba.
Our crew never misses out on dessert. In addition to K's homemade coconut cupcakes (which we weren't allowed to eat inside - booo), we also tried their green tea ice cream with flour cake & red bean, and as you can see from the opening photo - taiyaki! Taiyaki makes the birthday girl happy. ^^
Thanks to all my most awesomest friends (L,M,C,EC,J) and family (A,K) for celebrating with me! Love you guys lots more than taiyaki! XD
