It was all pointing to a bad day - working on MLK day, forgetting a prepacked lunch at home, and realizing I had no breakfast either. Add to that - drinking 1.5 cups of coffee on an empty stomach, which of course led to dizziness & the shakes. I had to get food. And A saved my daily internal argument ('what should I eat?') by suggesting I head over to this truck and grab me some Taiwanese food. He had just eaten it and said it was gooood. At $7 a dish that he claimed would take me two days to eat, how could I resist?
I hadn't realized til I got there and read the menu, that the meats were fried. That made me a wee bit hesitant - for about 2 seconds - as I imagined making a mess on my desk trying to crunch through the chicken. But, I'd walked all the way there in the cold, the girl behind the window was staring expectantly at me awaiting my order, and I spotted a lychee juice box on the counter (oh they really know how to lure me in!!).
When I got back to my office, you can't imagine how thrilled I was to find out it wasn't the American-style fried chicken I was expecting (like DUH, I shoulda known that already - hint: "Taiwanese"). The skin was crisp, but not crunchy, and the meat - OMG the meat - was so tender. All marinated in their special sauce, and there's really no reason not to try this!
I've never been so glad to have forgotten my lunch! :)
